Shanghai Research Center of Ophthalmology and Optometry (SRCO) was officially established on May 25, 2018 and based on Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University, which is the only provincial and municipal Ophthalmology & Optometry research center in China. The aim for SRCO is to integrate clinical and scientific research resource in the field of Ophthalmology & Optometry at Shanghai, led by the ophthalmologist team of the Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University, guided the direction of development of Ophthalmology & Optometry and to build an international A state-of-the-art Ophthalmology & Optometry research center. Professor Zhou Xingtao from the Eye &ENT Hospital of Fudan University is the Managing Director for SRCO and Professor Chu Renyuan from the Eye &ENT Hospital of Fudan University is the Academic Director for SRCO.

The Department of Ophthalmology & Optometry of the Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University covers the Key Laboratory of Myopia for the National Health Commission, the Asia-Pacific ICL Training Center for High Myopia, and the Asia-Pacific SMILE Training Center. In addition, our department is the leader institution for Shanghai Ophthalmology & Optometry Professional Technology Qualification Institute and the National Safety Monitoring Committee of Orthokeratology. So far, our team is the only team to win the second prize of national technical invention in the field of Ophthalmology & Optometry in China. Furthermore, our team has won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of the Ministry of Education, Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award and the Clinical Medical Achievement Award. We are aiming to provide medical services for the treatment of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia.

Our team is pioneer team for corneal refractive surgery (RK, PRK, LASEK/Epi-Lasik, FLEX, SMILE, etc.), transepithelial rapid corneal cross-linking (CXL), ICLV4C, presbyopia correction in China. Our hospital ranks the top one in SMILE surgery volume globally, and ICL surgery volume in Chinese public hospitals. We have first reported the research results in term of SMILE-CCL, epikeratophakia with phototherapeutic keratectomy for the treatment of corneal dystrophy, and SMILE lenticule implantation for hyperopia, corneal ectasia, and keratoconus. Moreover, our hospital is the first one to establish High myopia and ICL clinic.

Also, we are the first one to elucidate the medical optometry concept, and launch the refractive development files for teen-agers and RGP research for the correction of refractive error. Furthermore, we have achieved remarkable results in terms of SOP for orthokeratology, RGP for keratoconus, and prevention and control of teen-agers myopia. In addition, our hospital is the pioneer to establish the mode of online training treatment for asthenopia, presbyopia, and children refractive error through the visual quality of physiology optical platform and binocular vision function research results.

Our team has 1 lifetime tenured professor, 2 doctoral tutors, 5 master's tutors, 4 chief physicians, 5 deputy chief physicians, 2 senior members of the International Society of Orthokeratology and more than 10 doctoral surgeons.
